Les Gens de Mon Pays, Burgas Int'l Folklore Festival (Bulgaria) 1975
Lazarovden (St. Lazarus Day) is a springtime folk ritual
in Bulgaria during which young girls wear their prettiest costumes to sing and
dance throughout the village. In
Montreal, since 1974, this tradition was celebrated for almost 20 years by Yves Moreau, world-famous specialist in
Bulgarian folk dance, and the Gens de Mon Pays Folk Ensemble
during a big week-end gathering where fans of Bulgarian folklore and Montreal's
Bulgarian community got together.
After many years of absence, this tradition was revived in 2010 ,2011, 2013 and 2014.
This year (2015 )will mark the final edition of Lazarovden and will coincide with the 40th anniversary of the first concert tour to Bulgaria of the Gens de Mon Pays Ensemble. For this occasion, we have extended a special invitation to all the ex-members of the group to come and celebrate at the Saturday night dance party.
